Step It Up with the NEW Intenza Escalate
Climbing stairs has been long regarded as a great workout for building cardiovascular strength and endurance. Climbing stairs is considered vertical work. The benefits of stairclimbing can also be its detractor. If you are carrying some extra bodyweight have some knee, hip, lower back discomfort you know you avoid stairclimbing like the plague! What if I told you there is now an easier way to transition to climbing stairs so that more of us can benefit from this great exercise!? If so, read on.
We at Dedham Health and Athletic Complex have been a medical wellness facility for over 25 years now and when we see a product that we believe will be a game changer in allowing more people to become fit and functional, we jump at the chance to be on the cutting edge!
We have purchased two new revolving staircases by a company called Intenza. They are the first to create a step mill that allows the height of the steps to adjust. Your standard step height is about 7.5 inches. This is also the fitness equipment manufacture’s standard when creating steppers. Which makes sense until we get a lower body injury or limitation that makes climbing a 7.5” step impossible. The engineers at Intenza have created a step mill that allows the user to adjust step height from four inches all the way to eight inches in two tenths of an inch increments! This allows for less range of motion needed to climb stairs, thus reducing the initial workload of stepping at any speed. This stepper allows you to adjust the speed of the steps (which all step mills have) but also to adjust step height which no other step mills have!
These are a great way to start back on stair climbing program whether it’s from having a layoff from working out, post-operative hip or knee joint surgery, you have limited range of motion in legs due to an injury. We believe these pieces will be a great benefit from physical therapy to elite training, these add a whole new level of people that have stopped stairclimbing for obvious reasons and also add another option for those who have been on stair climber and want another variable to add in to their workouts. Stop in and talk to one of our exercise physiologists to get you set up on the new Intenza Escalate.
